Summary

I had been waiting for this story ever since Cassian and prickly Nesta first locked eyes at Feyre's father's house in the human realm in ACOTAR, Book1! I could feel it coming; they deserved their own story。 Feyre and Rhys are great and all, but Cass and Nesta…so much fire…and growth。 Loved this series recommended by my MIL! I’ve just finished ACOSF and I’m already feeling the hangover! Just。 WOW。 This book exceeded all of my expectations, which might I add, were high to begin with。 Truthfully, I was never a huge Nesta fan in the previous books。 I knew she was misunderstood and fighting her own inner battles but I never imagined to love her character, but love her character I do! Her character development was just amazing。 The strength and determination she displayed was awe inspiring。 I already loved Cassian, but h I’ve just finished ACOSF and I’m already feeling the hangover! Ok, I just loved every part of this book!! 。。。more

I loved this book so much! The way Nesta has been treated throughout the series by the inner circle for being angry (with good reason) pisses me off sooo much。 Angry, powerful women ftw ❤️ Although it's very unlike the other books, not too many war scenes or political intrigue, but more focused on the characters them self and their flaws etc, this book is still probably my favorite in the series。 Mainly because of how it centers around Nesta's struggle with her anger, PTSD, depression, guilt, he I loved this book so much! I wasn't sure how I felt about continuing this series, and following Nesta, but it was definitely worth it。Is this book way longer than it needs to be? Yes。 But there are so many small, domestic moments that just add to the feels。Nesta is one of my top, prickly, want to throttle and hug her at the same time female characters。 I wasn't sure how I felt about continuing this series, and following Nesta, but it was definitely worth it。Is this book way longer than it needs to be? This is a very character-driven book。 It has a weaker plot compared to its prequels, but since I’m a huge fan of the series and its characters, I didn’t really mind。 The romance is also heavier in here, and I’m pretty sure everyone was excited about that ;) I honestly didn’t expect Nesta to be that good of a protagonist, but now I think I like her better than Feyre。 Cassian is no doubt a great character from the very start, and I love how this book delved more on his backstory。 Azriel also has m This is a very character-driven book。 It has a weaker plot compared to its prequels, but since I’m a huge fan of the series and its characters, I didn’t really mind。 The romance is also heavier in here, and I’m pretty sure everyone was excited about that ;) I honestly didn’t expect Nesta to be that good of a protagonist, but now I think I like her better than Feyre。 Cassian is no doubt a great character from the very start, and I love how this book delved more on his backstory。 Azriel also has more exposure in this, and I really hope the next book will be about him。 。。。more

Mainly a Nesta progress report。 Nesta's PTSD and recovery was well writtenIn last quarter of the book though a switch just flipped in her and Nesta became totally fine and reasonable and sweet。 I!'d rather she sailed off into the sunset with an eye patch and pirate hate/set fire to the universe/became an Amazon like group (cuz of the Valkyrie etc etc but no。 Nessian happened which I didn't ship at all。 All in all not SJM's best but still good。 Mainly a Nesta progress report。 Nesta's PTSD and recovery was well writtenIn last quarter of the book though a switch just flipped in her and Nesta became totally fine and reasonable and sweet。 I!'d rather she sailed off into the sunset with an eye patch and pirate hate/set fire to the universe/became an Amazon like group (cuz of the Valkyrie etc etc but no。 Nessian happened which I didn't ship at all。 All in all not SJM's best but still good。 。。。more

I HAVE NO WORDS。 I absolutely loved it。 Looking back, I was most definitely shocked that this book is no longer in the YA genre, I was shocked but also it made perfect sense。 Nesta and Cassian's romance DID NOT belong in a YA genre, I'm so glad Sarah is stepping into full on ADULT romance! I love the storylines and the character introduced。 I truly hated Nesta in all of the ACOTAR books (first 3) and I hated her even more after A Court of Frost and Starlight but MAN! her character development wa I HAVE NO WORDS。 I absolutely loved it。 Looking back, I was most definitely shocked that this book is no longer in the YA genre, I was shocked but also it made perfect sense。 Nesta and Cassian's romance DID NOT belong in a YA genre, I'm so glad Sarah is stepping into full on ADULT romance! She tore into the darkness with talons and teeth。 Rent and cleaved and shredded。 And the dark eternity around her shuddered。 Bucked。 Thrashed。She laughed as it recoiled。 Laughed around the mouthful of raw power she ripped out and swallowed whole; laughed at the fistfuls of eternity she shoved into her heart, her veins。The Cauldron struggled like a bird under a cat's paw。 She refused to relent。Everything it had stolen from her, from Elain, she would take from it。Wrapped in black eternity, Nest She tore into the darkness with talons and teeth。 Rent and cleaved and shredded。 And the dark eternity around her shuddered。 Bucked。 Thrashed。She laughed as it recoiled。 Laughed around the mouthful of raw power she ripped out and swallowed whole; laughed at the fistfuls of eternity she shoved into her heart, her veins。The Cauldron struggled like a bird under a cat's paw。 She refused to relent。Everything it had stolen from her, from Elain, she would take from it。Wrapped in black eternity, Nesta and the Cauldron twined, burning through the darkness like a newborn star。 First, I'm loving the fact that SJM switched from the original trilogy's 1st person pov to 3rd person pov。 A personal preference of course, but still, I liked how the story read。Now。 The book。So, Nesta has always been a slightly tricky character for me and the reason for this is because for the first three books all we knew of Nesta came directly from Feyre herself, her memories and experiences, and what we got wasn't exactly kind。 Nesta was portrayed as someone beautiful and cold and cruel and who seemed to delight at taking shots at Feyre's vulnerabilities, but who also had no problem taking advantage of her sister's skills when she or Elain needed them。 And throughout the books Nesta maintainted that proud and vicious demeanor, though towards the end we saw a softness in Nesta that belied the cruelty of her words。So, honestly, I was worried and curious to see how Nesta and Cassian's book would go。 But you know, I think this is where SJM really shines in her writing- her ability to weave a powerful story centered around the healing and growth of her characters, mentally and physically。 And it is not pretty and it is not easy and it is not kind and they don't heal in the blink of an eye or through finding true love。 In fact, Nesta at the beginning of this book is in so much pain, trying to drown out the guilt and the agony and emptiness in whatever can give her some kind of respite, whether that is drinking or sex or music。 This book is painful to read because it feels so damn realistic。 Because Nesta has cacooned herself in coping mechanisms designed not to deal with the trauma she's carrying, but to bury it -- to pretend she doesn't have a power in her veins that she doesn't understand, that she doesn't relive her father's death with every crackling fire, that she doesn't hate herself for not trying harder, for not carrying if they starve and letting Feyre carry that burden alone。SJM has a beautiful talent when it comes to making us care about characters that sometimes seem so damn irredeemable and it shines in ACOSF because we finally get to see inside of Nesta's head。 We finally get to understand where that rage was coming from, why she was so cruel to Feyre -- even to see how their mother help construct this armor of casual cruelty and elegance that Nesta would continue to use。 Though that's not to say her actions are forgiven or wiped clean。 For me, it's important to recognize that someone may be hurting and that may drive their actions, but also to understand that it doesn't give them any kidn of right to hurt someone without realizing it or recognizing it。 (though also i had a little bit of a problem with the IC because honestly?)Cassian is beautiful and wonderful and should always be protected and honestly his relationship with nesta was lovely — but they definitely had to work for it。 And honestly there were moments when even he wasn’t very kind。 I loved learning more about cassian, more about his insecurities and his fears — and I hated how people would just refer to him as some mindless brute。The Valkyrie plot: loved it。 Want more。 Freaking amazing。 And I loved how nesta gwyn and emerie paralleled Rhys cassian and az。 I really hope we see more from them and I feel like we will, like Sarah just gave us the beginning threads in a tapestry。 Also I love gwyn。 There I said it lol。My one point of dissatisfaction? While I loved that scene where nesta finally let everything out and while I loved the fact that cassian was simply there for her, I kinda wish she Feyre had something similar for their own closure。 They got to say “I love you” but I feel like there could have been more。 。。。more

*Warning* This is an adult level book with multiple adult themes。 That said, I liked this book。 Did the timeline of healing go a little fast? Yes。 Is that ok? Yes。 It’s fiction。 Did I like all the things other characters did or what Nesta did? No。 Is that ok? She got me again。I was determined NOT to like Nesta。 No matter what voodoo tale spinning Maas performed。 I KNEW there were going to eventually be some redeeming qualities。。。 eventually, and yet。。。 By the end of it, I was rooting for Nes。 Yes, sometimes the angry lashing-out pity-party maelstrom that was Nesta grated on my last nerve。 Even after my extremely reluctant heart began to warm to her。 By the end of the book though, it was her flawed character that ended up endearing her to me。 Who want She got me again。I was determined NOT to like Nesta。 No matter what voodoo tale spinning Maas performed。 I KNEW there were going to eventually be some redeeming qualities。。。 eventually, and yet。。。 By the end of it, I was rooting for Nes。 Yes, sometimes the angry lashing-out pity-party maelstrom that was Nesta grated on my last nerve。 Even after my extremely reluctant heart began to warm to her。 By the end of the book though, it was her flawed character that ended up endearing her to me。 Who wants a totally perfect heroine? Even Feyre made mistakes and had flaws, albeit not quite so blatant。 Nesta though, is almost more relatable when you consider how a very young adult would act when faced with the challenges and changes Nesta faced。 And while I'm screaming at the book because I just want her to。。。。 What ever it is。 (TELL Cassian! TALK to Feyre! Keep her mouth shut!) I'm also so engaged in this book that I want to scream at her through the pages! So even had I been able to accomplish what I set out to accomplish (maintaining my distaste for Nesta no matter what) this book would still get ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from me simply for Ms。 Maas' ability to engage a reader with such skill。 It certainly doesn't hurt that this also furthers the story of Rhysand and Feyre。 It adds depth and complexity to the universe Maas built, evolving from what was simply good fantasy to an epic fantasy tale。 I definitely recommend this。 To both new Maas readers and to those who have been fans all the while。 。。。more

Holy shit。。。 why can’t I give it a 6/5?? This book exceeded all my expectations! What a ride!!! SJM is the queen of my emotions and I will probably read anything she’ll write。 If you’ve enjoyed ACOTAR series, you will enjoy this one (even if you’ve previously questioned Nesta and her character in general)。 60-70% of it was character-driven。 However, that did not make the story less enjoyable。 Thanks to SJM for this masterpiece ❤️

3。5 stars because I flew through it。 It was just what I needed getting back into reading- entertaining, light, and familiar。 My main issues were Nesta being a bit too much of a special snowflake main character and there wasn’t too much focus on the plot which I’ve come to terms with within SJM novels。 I will say a lot of time was spent on character development, mostly Nesta’s growth through the trauma of the previous novels which I could appreciate after a fairly traumatic 2020。
